A constraint on the angular momentum evolution of Be stars

چکیده

The Be star sample of Steele et al. (1998) has a distribution of v sin i’s that is luminosity dependant, with giants having lower projected rotational velocities than dwarfs. We show that this effect can be understood simply in terms of angular momentum conservation during the evolution from dwarf to giant. Any decretion disk or other angular momentum losing mechanism for such objects must cause a loss of no more than 15% of the stellar angular momentum over the Be phase lifetime.

Rotation of Horizontal Branch Stars in Globular Clusters

The rotation of horizontal branch stars places important constraints on angular momentum evolution in evolved stars and therefore rotational mixing on the giant branch. Prompted by new observations of rotation rates of horizontal branch stars, we calculate simple models for the angular momentum evolution of a globular cluster giant star from the base of the giant branch to the star’s appearance...

The rotational evolution of young low mass stars

Star-disk interaction is thought to drive the angular momentum evolution of young stars. In this review, I present the latest results obtained on the rotational properties of low mass and very low mass pre-main sequence stars. I discuss the evidence for extremely efficient angular momentum removal over the first few Myr of pre-main sequence evolution and describe recent results that support an ...

Presupernova Evolution of Rotating Massive Stars I: Numerical Method and Evolution of the Internal Stellar Structure

The evolution of rotating stars with zero-age main sequence (ZAMS) masses in the range 8M⊙ to 25M⊙ is followed through all stages of stable evolution. The initial angular momentum is chosen such that the star’s equatorial rotational velocity on the ZAMS ranges from zero to ∼ 70% of break-up. The stars rotate rigidly on the ZAMS as a consequence of angular momentum redistribution during the pre-...

Rotational Evolution of Solar-Like Stars in Clusters from Pre-Main Sequence to Main Sequence: Empirical Results

Rotation periods are now available for ∼500 pre-main sequence and recently arrived main sequence stars of solar-like mass (0.4-1.2 M⊙) in five nearby young clusters: the Orion Nebula Cluster, NGC 2264, α Per, IC 2602 and the Pleiades. In combination with estimates of stellar radii these data allow us to construct distributions of surface angular momentum per unit mass at three different epochs:...

Star/disk interaction and angular momentum evolution model for solar-like stars

The magnetic field in young stellar object is undoubtedly the most important component when one dealing with the angular momentum evolution. It controls this latter one from the pre-main sequence, during the so-called disk locking phase where the stars magnetically interact with their surrounding disk, to the main-sequence through powerful stellar winds that remove angular momentum from the ste...
